One Dead, 4 Hurt in Brooklyn Hair Salon Shooting
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Two armed men stormed into a beauty salon on Monday with their guns blazing, shot a man to death and wounded four other people, including an off-duty police officer who was getting her hair done, authorities said.
The man who died had been standing outside a bakery on a busy commercial strip in Brooklyn on Monday afternoon when the two armed men jumped out of a sport utility vehicle, charged toward him and started shooting, police said. The man, who was 19, fled into the nearby De Lux Gallery salon on Fulton Street, and the armed men followed and kept shooting, they said.
At least 10 shots were fired, witnesses said.
The 41-year-old off-duty officer was shot in the right foot. A 29-year-old stylist at the salon, which is next to a restaurant and other stores in the Fort Greene neighborhood, was shot in the legs. Two bystanders, both 52 years old, also were shot in their legs.
The wounded victims were hospitalized in stable condition.
The shooters escaped and were being sought, police said. No motive for the shooting was cited.
A city councilwoman who saw the shooting said people on the crowded street ran and ducked for cover.
"It was just pandemonium,'' Councilwoman Letitia James said.
The hair salon's Web site calls the neighborhood "idyllic.''
